The Seeress and the Stone 4

Updated on February 12, 2014

Angelia opened her eyes and looked around at the brown canvas of a tent. She sat up. Le’Mone was asleep on a blanket next to her. For a moment she wondered how she had gotten there and then she remembered the ceremony and the vision she had seen.

She dressed quietly, careful not to wake Le’Mone, and stepped outside taking a deep breath. Her head felt remarkably clear and the lake seemed so peaceful that she soon found herself walking along its shore. It wasn’t long before she reached the place of the ceremony. She thought about the two visions. They had both seemed so real. She had actually seen those soldiers and then the King. The images moved through her mind.

She sat next to the water and reached out to touch the glassy surface. She no longer felt afraid to do so, just curious. As soon as her fingers broke the surface her mind was filled with images. Most were blurry and rushed past like a bumblebee, but a few lingered briefly before flitting on. She was curious to understand what they meant. She kept her fingers trailing in the water letting the vague images pass.

Out of the corner of her eyes she noticed the tall, silver haired figure approaching. Just before he reached her side she spoke. “Hello, French.”

He sat down next to her and took her hand. As soon as his skin touched hers the vague images sharpened. She could see French standing at the edge of tall cliff. The morning sunshine lit is face and made his silvery hair shine like diamonds. That image was quickly replaced by another. He was standing next to her in a garden. He leaned down and kissed her tenderly. She jerked her hand out of the water and the images faded into the back of her mind. She could feel the heat rising in her cheeks as the image of the kiss remained in her mind.

She turned to face him. His face was a wall of concern and she laughed at his serious expression. “Don’t look so worried. I’m fine. If fact I feel better than ever.”

She had felt calm when he sat next to her, and now as he held her hand her heart began to hammer in her chest. She took a deep breath trying to slow her racing pulse. She had never really known how he felt about her and the vision of his kiss made her uncertain and nervous. She had developed feelings for French that she was sure he didn’t reciprocate. They had always acted like brother and sister growing up. After the brief vision, she was even more confused.

He absently tucked a stray hair behind her ear. “Do you remember what happened?” He looked slightly uncomfortable, like he didn’t know what to do or say.

“Yes and no,” she replied hesitantly, not sure how to explain. “I had another…vision. I think I fainted, but I don’t remember anything after that.”

“When you started speaking we all moved closer. Jord and I caught you just before you hit the water. Celendar got worried when you didn’t wake up by the time we reached camp, but Aunt Le’ told him to calm down and let you rest. You did have sort of a busy afternoon yesterday.”

She ducked her head. “I’m glad I missed all of that.”

French smiled. He looked like he wanted to say more, but indecision kept him silent. So she placed her hand on top of his and kissed him lightly on the cheek.

“Thank you for rescuing me...twice.” She smiled.

He looked at her with a slightly dazed smiled and then pulled her into a hug. “Anything for you, Angel.”

He helped her to her feet and then stepped back, looking into her eyes. “You look different somehow. Older.”

“I feel older, and yet the same.” She bit the corner of her lip and turned to the lake. “It’s calm this morning. Let’s walk for a while.”

They walked along the shore talking quietly. French told her what he had discussed with Kya, Jord and Sparrow and in turn Angelia described her first vision. It was just like old times when they used to talk by the pond near Celendar’s cottage. Angelia hoped there would be many more opportunities for conversations such as these. For the moment she felt very happy.

Slowly the camp began to wake up. French and Angelia continued walking along the shore until Le’Mone rang the bell for breakfast. After breakfast they were joined at the water’s edge by all of their closest friends including Kya and Jord’s father, Geoff; and Sparrow’s mother, Robin. Angelia explained her first vision.

“It was strange; like I was present in the city during the attack, not just seeing it from a distance, but actually participating. It was frightening.”

“Why did you fall back into the water?” Sparrow asked.

Angelia thought for a moment. She didn’t want to tell everyone that the King of the army tried to take her, because he was the same man from her second vision.

“One of the warriors saw me. He rode over towards me. His horse was larger than the others. He looked like he might be a leader. I thought he was going to hit me, but he bent down to sweep me onto his horse. I twisted away and lost my footing on the shelf. That’s when I fell into the water.”

She looked at her grandfather. He knew she was keeping something back. She ducked her head trailing her fingers in the water in the shore. Le’Mone gently took her free hand and images instantly filled her head. She could see Le’Mone in a dark cave facing a glass wall. Angelia pulled her fingers out of the water and the images faded.

“The warrior who saw you, did you see his face? What did he look like?” Le’Mone asked.

Angelia looked at Le’Mone not really hearing her question. She wondered if they realized what she saw when they touched her. She felt uncomfortable like she was invading their privacy. Her gaze dropped to the ground.

“Angelia?”

Angelia looked up. “I’m sorry, what did you ask?”

“The warrior who saw you, what did he look like?”

Angelia shuddered remembering the second vision. “He saw me. How could he have seen me, it was just a vision? But that is not all, he knew who I was. He came toward me.” She looked at Celendar, “How did he know me, Grandfather?”

“I don’t know, Angel. I don’t know,” he replied.
